Robert Harrison Gilroy served as a Union Soldier in the Civil War in the 44th Regiment, Iowa Infantry, Company H, Rank Pvt., Film # M541 Roll 10. He enlisted 11 MAY 1864 was discharged 15 SEP 1865. GAR Post # 84 NE. From Rolls of Union Soldiers: Gilroy, Robert, age 20. Residence Greene County, Iowa. Nativity, Ohio. Enlisted 11 MAY 1864. Mustered 01 JUN 1864. Mustered out 15 SEP 1864, Davenport, Iowa, expiration of term of service.

OLD TIMER IS DEAD.
Robert Gilroy was called to Falls City, Nebraska, the latter part of last week by the death of his uncle, R. H. Gilroy, whose funeral occurred there on Sunday.  the deceased was 76 years of age.  He was one of the early residents of Greene county, residing in east Franklin township, until the year 1882 when he moved to Nebraska.  He was a brother of George and Henry Gilroy, well known early residents, and who are now dead.  Surviving him are two other brothers, Albert Gilroy of Boone, and David Gilroy, of Reading Kansas. [ Within this "Obit" there are is a reference to Robert Harrison's age at death of 76 years. Accoring to all accounts he was  either 79 or 81 years old at his death {b. 11 MAR 1844 or 1846}]

Listed in the 1880 United States Census for Franklin, Greene, Iowa are the family of Robert and Elizabeth Gilroy. All the children listed were born in Kansas.
